How to Find your Perfect Wedding Dress

Wedding Planner Perth

We’ve put together a few tips to help you enjoy this special moment.

Knowing how much you are prepared to spend before entering a boutique can save lots of heartbreak or unexpected debt!  Expect to pay more for a couture gown – it’s a one of a kind dress. Great news for those who need to keep to a strict budget, there are dresses out there that will be kind to your wallet!

So many dresses to try and so little time! You might feel that you know the exact style of dress that suits you and your body shape, so that’s a good starting point.  However, trying something a little different might give you that extra wow factor.  Take time to research the styles that you like but keep an open mind for other options.  Best not to fall in love with a dress on someone else as it might look completely different on you!

Ask any bride and they’ll tell you that the moment they found the perfect wedding dress was just magical.  Give yourself the best chance to find ‘the one’ by booking an appointment rather than just turning up at the store.  Although many bridal boutiques will welcome you without an appointment, most would prefer to be prepared to meet with you and give you their full attention.

Picture this – the dress is gorgeous, your mum thinks it’s perfect and its way below budget.  You’re feeling pretty good but not as awesome as you had dreamed.  What do you do?? Easy answer, take off the dress and don’t buy it.  If it’s not giving you the best vibe ever, just walk away.  You will find the perfect dress.

Choosing your perfect dress is a fun and intimate event.  Surround yourself by only those who will give you their honest opinion in the nicest way, and who will love being there for the OMG moment when you find ‘the one’. Two people is enough of an entourage.  More spectators means more opinions to handle!

Are you saying ‘I Do’ in a mammoth cathedral in front of 300 guests? A short little beach number probably wouldn’t cut the mustard and vintage-inspired wedding reception screams out for lace.  A modern wedding in an art gallery or a town hall might inspire you to think about the latest trends and be fashion-forward in your choice of gown.  Consider where you’ll be wearing your wedding dress on your wedding day and this will help you to see the style of your wedding.

How to Find the Perfect Location for your Wedding Ceremony

Wedding Planner Perth

Whether you prefer a church or civil ceremony, there are a few things to consider when making your selection:

  • Will the venue accommodate the number of guests you will invite?
  • Is there an option for cover if it rains?
  • Where will you exit the car – is it close enough to the ceremony spot?
  • Family photographs – is there an opportunity to have your family photos in this area?
  • Is there public access and can the ceremony site be reserved
  • Will there be shade during your ceremony?
  • Is there ample parking for guests?
  • Acoustics – will your guests be able to hear you? If not, you may require a PA
  • Does the area fit your style or will you have to decorate it to make it more suitable?
  • Do you hire the location by the hour and how much does it cost? Remember to allow time for the set up and pack down of chairs etc.
  • Are you permitted to consume alcohol and is a liquor license possible?

10 reasons you might need a Wedding Planner

Screen shot 2015-07-13 at 12.15.48 PMPicture this; You’ve just got engaged, how exciting!! Everyone is overjoyed and supportive and you quickly throw an engagement party. After the hype       settles, you start getting questions from your family and friends, starting with,“Have you set the date yet?”, “What do you mean you haven’t booked a   venue?”, “You should absolutely book your flowers first”, “A small wedding? You must at least invite your fourth-cousins-twice-removed and that great aunt you’ve never met in your life!”.

Breathe in, breathe out.

If the following points relate to you, it might be time to give us a call:)

1. You and your Fiancé’s jobs are full time, demanding and you don’t have any family available to help, as they work full time too!

2. You don’t have the time to do the research. Think about all those blogs to read, hours to look for inspiration, and the countless back and fourth emailing to find the best of the best.

3. You’re planning a wedding in the Margaret River Region or perhaps at a location where you need to create a venue entirely from scratch – think marquee, shed, warehouse or an open space.

4. You’re relying on another vendor or family member to handle your wedding day.  It’s great they want to help but they aren’t a wedding planner armed with problem solving and coordination experience.

5. You get frustrated with your Fiancé, family and some friends when they try to help, but kinda make things worse……

6. You and your Fiancé have booked your date and venue.  That’s great, but it’s been a few months now, and no more progress.

7. You have zero clue about what amount to budget for things, and zero clue about how much vendors and suppliers charge for their services.

8. You are having bad dreams about running late for your own wedding, and losing sleep over it.

9. Family tensions are starting to develop because of the wedding and lack of planning.

10. Panic sets in when you start thinking about your wedding day.

Breathe in, breathe out.

If you’re nodding right now, we would highly recommend considering a Wedding Planner.

Here at The Original Wedding Company we offer you a wide range of services suited to you, making the planning process easier!  These include having your own personal Wedding PA, or your own Wedding Coach to be your mentor through the process of the planning.  We are also great problem solvers and offer Wedding Day Coordination.

7 tips for Newly-Engaged Couples

Blog Header

Congratulations on your engagement!  This must be a really exciting time for you and your family. Your gorgeous engagement ring sits proudly on your finger, the engagement party was a huge success and now you have to start planning your wedding day! Your family and friends keep asking what you have booked and reminding you how little time you have before your ‘big day’. So what happens next? Our Wedding PA and Stylist Rachael has put together her top 7 tips to get you started on the right foot.

It’s important to set a realistic budget right away. Know how much you are willing to spend, and allow for room to move for those unexpected items along the way! Know what areas you’re both willing to spend a bit more on if need be, and where you’re happy to save money too!

Consider the weather, other important dates in your lives, and activities of family & close friends when choosing a month for your wedding. If guests will need to travel a long distance to attend, the further in the future your wedding is, the more likely it is that they will be able to make it. Some venues offer savings during the winter months (and Perth can be beautiful in winter!) so don’t discount June, July & August. Also think about the time of day – breakfast & lunch receptions are becoming more & more popular! Be flexible with your date choice before you visit venues to ensure you’re are not disappointed.

savethedate header

You both need to be on the same page from the get go. Your wedding should be a personal occasion and should be a reflection of you both individually, and of your lives together. Both write separate lists of what you love and how you want that reflected at your wedding. This could be a reference to your childhood, the story of how you first met, or the proposal. Also identify the things that you don’t like to see at weddings to make sure you are heading in the right direction!

Both identify three aspects of your wedding that are the most important to you. Focus on making them just right, rather than trying to make every little thing perfect.

Do you both have busy schedules? Do you work long hours and are you able to take any time off before your big day? Work out what meetings you both need to attend early on and schedule this time in your diary right away. It is important that you don’t leave things to the last minute! If you are time poor, struggle to stay organised or if you just need help to schedule everything, you might want to consider hiring a Wedding Planner!

Yes, creating your ceremony & reception styling is fun (and Pinterest can become very addictive!) but don’t let this side of your wedding planning take all of your time! Ensure you get all of your vendors booked in first before you start on your styling… if you start this process too early, you are bound to change your mind along the way anyway!

Family & friends are going to give you lots of options and offer lots of ‘help’ which can be both a blessing and a curse! Delegate tasks early on so that everyone knows their responsibilities and has jobs to keep them busy! Don’t discount other’s opinions and try to be diplomatic, especially when dealing with family members that might be contributing some money towards your big day. At the end of the day, it’s important that you don’t lose sight of that big picture and open communication between family is imperative.

Choosing the right wedding planner for you

Choosing a wedding planner is not always an easy decision.  There are no regulations behind setting up a wedding planning business, and certainly no ‘must have’ accreditation.  It’s a career choice that many girls make when they’ve just been married, or studied an online course and feel an affinity to weddings and all things bridal.  From what I’ve seen over the last 8 years, only a few have the business skills and acumen to create a full time business, and even fewer go on to build a solid business with integrity and superior customer satisfaction.

For the most part, being a wedding planner propels you into another woman’s wedding dream while keeping a close eye on her expenditure and executing a well-planned event.  I still feel amazed and humble that so many couples and their families place absolute trust in my team to create the perfect wedding experience.  I don’t think that feeling will ever go away.

Wedding planners have received such bad press recently due to the alleged activities of a wedding planner right here in Perth and also one in Queensland.  I’ve seen a change in our online enquires and questions from brides when they come to our office.  It appears the recent bad press and alleged behavior of a few have led brides to become more concerned about choosing the best wedding planner for them.

As a leading expert in Wedding Planning, I’ve put together a few pointers to help you on your way to find that perfect planner to make the next few months stress-free and lots of fun.

Portfolio please!

A professional wedding planner will have a history of fabulous events.  Once you’ve stalked your potential planner on Facebook and Instagram, search the internet for the wedding planner’s name and the business name.  An experienced and expert planner will have lots of articles and references on the internet, as well as testimonials from past brides.  This can give you a great picture of the success and experience of the wedding planner.  Also speak to other vendors.  Word of mouth can sometimes tell you much more than the internet.  Remember, experience is essential.  There is no substitute.

Professional or hobby wedding planner?

The availability of your wedding planner is paramount.  Are they able to meet on weekends or evenings?  Are they available during business hours when you have a day off work?  Do they attend to your emails and phone calls in a timely fashion?  A wedding planner who is limited in their availability due to having another job can cause problems when you need to see them during the day, or they need to contact suppliers for you.  For a few wedding planners, this is their full-time job and their office hours are usually 9 to 5, with availability during evenings and weekends.

Nice to meet you!

A face to face meeting with your potential wedding planner is essential.  It’s absolutely vital that you get a good vibe from your planner and actually like them as not only are you trusting them with a very important task, but you will be spending lots of time with them!  Does the planner appear organized and confident?  Do you feel that they have listened to your ideas?  A visit to their office for a coffee and a chat can also help you to determine the success and experience of their business, and a chance to meet the rest of the team.

How much?

A simple and transparent fee structure is essential.  You don’t want any surprises just before your wedding day.  Your planner will be able to clearly explain any fees and charges you will incur, and may let you pay in installments making budgeting a lot easier.  Wedding planners don’t cost the earth, but remember you get what you pay for.

Please feel free to contact me HERE or 92288 143 if you have any other questions.

Lose the stress of wedding planning!

Without a doubt, your wedding day will be one of the most glorious and exciting days of your life.  You may have dreamed about it since you were a little girl, and the mere mention of it may bring a tear to your parents’ eyes.  You’ve spent such a long time organizing all the small and large details and the day is getting closer and closer.  The final weeks leading up to your wedding day can be really stressful and sometimes it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  This is the point where we can step in.  Let us make sure that every day leading up to your wedding is magical and that you’re feeling fresh and relaxed on your wedding day.

Everyone wants to spend time with you as your wedding day draws near.  You’ll have family and friends arriving for the big day who will want to see you, your bridal party will arrange some pre-wedding adventures, and who knows when you can fit in drinks with your work colleagues!  Add to this the multitude of phone calls and emails you have to attend to, just to make sure that your wedding day runs smoothly and your ceremony and reception look amazing.  Have you made all final payments? Will your flowers arrive at the right time?  What time should your cars pick you up?  Will you have time to fit in a manicure and massage before your wedding day?

The Original Wedding Company has planned weddings since 2006.  As experienced wedding planners in Perth, we know the elements which go together to make a stress-free time for the beautiful bride and her family.  Lots of women enjoy the challenge of planning their own wedding, but value professional help in the weeks leading up to the big day.

Let us give you back some time to spend with your family and friends.  Our Four Week Bridal Rescue Package gives you piece of mind that all the final details have been considered and confirmed while you are relaxing with your hubby-to-be.  We will contact all suppliers and prepare a running sheet for your wedding day. We will make sure that each supplier knows where they have to be and when. We provide you with a list of final payments to be made, so nothing is left out. We’ll go through your wedding plans in minute detail and ensure nothing has been forgotten.  We will oversee the set up of your ceremony and reception so you don’t have to.

We welcome you to contact us at or call us on 08 92288143 to discuss how we can help you have a fun and relaxing wedding experience.  We’d love you to make an appointment to visit our office so we can listen to your plans so far, and chat about how we can help.

For an investment of $2490, we can ensure that you have a wonderful wedding experience and a fabulous wedding day.  Call us to arrange a chat today :)

Meet our fabulous team!

A few weeks ago, the amazing Erica Serena joined us to document our day as we styled and coordinated the gorgeous wedding of Bree and Dan at Caversham House in Perth’s Swan Valley.  It’s not often that we get the chance to have team photos taken amid looking after our bride and setting up a wedding ceremony and reception.  However, Caversham House presented the perfect opportunity amid its lush gardens and fabulous ceremony and reception areas.  I’m very proud of my team at The Original Wedding Company – there is a huge mixture of skills and experience and I’m very much looking forward to the magic we will create for our couples.  So here we are, Jessica , Ellie and I.  Enjoy, Jenn x
