Black coffee, something savoury, pilates and a treasured subscription to Vogue Living – that’s Ellie, our Margaret River Wedding Planner. Having lived in Dunsbourgh for the last ten years, Ellie lives and breathes all things that the South West of Western Australia has to offer. We’ve taken a moment this morning to chat about why she loves planning and styling weddings ‘down south’, and what she likes best about weddings in and around Margaret River;
So Ellie, you spend a lot of time in Margaret River. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not planning a wedding?
ELLIE Relax, relax and then relax a bit more! I really enjoy the opportunity to eat out for breakfast and usually dinner – there are so many beautiful cafes. I love to wander around vintage and second-hand shops, looking for that special something for our next wedding. Spending time with my family is also awesome.
What do you think the South West has to offer couples for their wedding day?
ELLIE Pretty much everything! The most amazing locations – dramatic cliffs, peaceful country-side, and the natural bush. Beach weddings, forest weddings – there is so much choice. There is space, and lots of it! I love how our couples and their guests can have a full wedding experience combined with a holiday. Feel like getting away from it all – then I can find you a retreat or a welcoming spa. Want to feel energised – then let’s head down to the beach!
What challenges do brides and grooms often face when planning a wedding in Margaret River?
ELLIE If you’re living in Perth, it can be frustrating as you can’t just pop in and visit a vendor. It can sometimes feel that you’re planning a wedding on the other side of the earth rather than just a few hours down the road!
Is there any particular advice you usually give to your couples when they are considering holding their wedding down south?
ELLIE Planning everything as early as possible will give you the best chance of getting exactly what you want. Weddings in the South West are getting more and more popular, and therefore venues and vendors are getting booked up quicker than ever before! Do you research before you make the trip down there and make a schedule of your appointments so that you don’t miss anything and can make the most of your time.
Do you have any favourite venues?
ELLIE I love Empire Retreat in Yallingup for a taste of utter perfection and adore Margaret River’s Secret Garden for a private and stunning ceremony. It also thrills me to find a rustic barn, or set up a marquee in a gorgeous field miles from anywhere.
Can you share some of your ‘secret spots’ in and around Margaret River?
ELLIE I’d love to over a coffee in our office!
